If you believe that Martha Stewart is an enemy of the state, you are right. However, is she a desperado that deserves the fate of corporate plungers? Well, the art of stealing from public companies is often rewarded for the skilled crook; but if you are caught in a lie, you are the worst of the worse. The focal point in this soap opera is missed by the media. Back in June of 2002, in Steward of the Public Trust, we asked: “Should Ms. Stewart be tarred and feathered for using etiquette banned by the SEC? Or are we supposed to swing Martha’s stockbroker, Peter Bacanovic, from the highest tree for getting her out of a down market?”
The establishment has an entrenched interest in convincing the public that their vote in elections actually decides who is selected for public office. That same power elite runs and controls both Republican and Democratic political parties. Only a neophyte or a delusional idealist believes that the voting cycle reflects the will of the people. When reform candidates engage in the primary process, hoping to win the nomination from either of the two major parties, they face the stark reality that playing ball with the money bundlers means obeying the directives of masters of the universe. These overlords own politicians, especially those who continue in office by winning predetermined elections.
The game of presidential politics is often described as musical chairs. Actually it is more like “Pop Goes the Weasel”. Since national elections have proved to be irrelevant, tweedledum and tweedledee charades, what’s the point in getting worked up over the next cycle? Well adjusted minds know that the next presidency will just be another administration that wastes the country. Another ‘Croissant Kerry’ run would drive the electorate to riot. A McCain march will never get fundamental troops to get in line. What will the parties on both sides of the same coin do? When in doubt call in the consultants and pollsters . . .
Recognizing that the great bard himself asked this timeless question in another form, why do so many avoid it, today? When Hamlet spoke the famous soliloquy “To be, or not to be, that is the question . . .”, he was contemplating suicide. Modern day Shakespeare’s could update the doubt of personal existence to encompass all of society. Why do the aggregate of masses deny confronting the record of power politics, that shapes and determines the future of our collective reality?
By any traditional standards of accomplishment, Barack Obama has failed miserably. This assessment is not based upon any particular ideology or partisan politics, just on straight pragmatic results. Furthermore, if you watch or read any of the accounts from the establishment media you would think that the black messiah would shuffle into a second term on the strength of his vocal talent. Singing sweet melodies appeals to those lacking in intellectual skills to assess and judge reality from rhetoric. What is striking about the tenor of the political debate is that the face of the country now wears a socialist mask that the masses love and demands even greater expansion.
Leave it up to God to judge Dubya’s soul, but for the rest of us mere mortals assessing his politics is not just sport, it is essential survival protection. The loony left is taking delight in his recent troubles. True to human nature, the rat pack has suspect motives, even when outrage is the fitting response. As usual, the bleeding heart utopians fail to understand the game that is playing itself out. Their idea of a villain is that bad old conservative President. Their kind of hero is that lip biting, “I feel your pain” philanderer. A womanizer is the next best thing to having a woman President. Well, here we go again! Wrong on all counts.
Well, Barak Obama got his wish on the second try. With the confirmation of John Owen Brennan by the Senate, the CIA has a new director from their own ranks. “Brennan’s 25 years with the CIA included work as a Near East and South Asia analyst, as station chief in Saudi Arabia, and as director of the National Counterterrorism Center.” He proudly attests, “I’m neither Republican nor Democrat. I’ve worked for the past five administrations.” Imagine a non-partisan spook as D/CIA. If this development is intended to restore confidence in the agency, just what kind of organization will emerge from a careerist covert agent at the helm?
If the human race survives into the future, the history of the current age will be entitled – A Love Affair with Authority. As the 21st century unfolds, the existential struggle between group worship of government and an inherent autonomy revolt against a popular culture of state obedience seems to forecast doom for civilization. By any measurable standard of success, the prospects of rescuing a society based upon human dignity and natural law is vanishing in a technocratic system of coerced compliance and punitive punishment. The limits of individual behavior are severely restricted to the requirements of the State and the willful confines of self-induced conformity.
Oh, remember those “good old days”. Discrimination and ethnic exclusion was the norm and a political party stood for “red meat” self-interest. The catcalls today ring with a “PC” note, how dare anyone even allude that restricting immigration can be part of open debate? The memory of the American Republican Party fades into vagueness of ignorance, knowing history is not a requirement of the modern Know Nothings. If you are one of these marginal historians, how can you be expected to appreciate the anti-immigrant sentiment that existed over a century and half ago?
